Google Map to Brookline Park

The Brookline Breeze is a challenging 5K fitness run/walk on the rolling hills of Brookline, a neighborhood located in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The 5K course takes runners and walkers from Brookline Memorial Park to the city border with Dormont and back again. The 3.1 mile route follows Brookline Boulevard to Pioneer Avenue, then turns left and proceeds to a turn-around near West Liberty Avenue, then back again.

Breeze Day fun begins at 7:00am with package pickup and pre-race registrations. A live band will take the stage at 8:00am. The first event of the morning is the One-Mile Mini-Breeze for the young ones, followed by the One-mile Dog Walk. The Mini-Breeze course is laid out around the perimeter of Brookline Park. Then, at 9:00am, it's time for the main event, the 5K run/walk.

The Brookline Breeze 5K race, which attracts top athletes from around the Tri-State area, along with hundreds of local runners, is sanctioned by the USATF (Three Rivers). Event timing is provided by Runners High.

Breeze Day Festivities

Package pickup and late registration are available the evening before the race beginning at 6:00pm. Pickup and registration continue the following morning on race day before the start of the events. Water Stops will be located along the course and there will be plenty of refreshments available for all participants near the finish line.

As the race results are confirmed, Brookline's own "The Wurms" will play live music and the Citiparks Roving Art Cart will be on site with kids crafts. An awards presentation and gift raffle follow the race, with the grand prize being a pair of tickets for an upcoming Pittsburgh Steelers football game.

Beginning at 11:00am, the Brookline Boulevard Breezefest and Community Festival will take place along the boulevard commercial district, just minutes from the park. The Breezefest will feature a merchant sidewalk sale, live music, informational booths and a wide array of children's activities, including an inflatable Moon Bounce and Slide, a balloon artist, face painter and much more.

The Brookline Breeze offers something for all ages to enjoy. Come celebrate physical fitness, and the character and charm of the community of Brookline on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Race proceeds benefit the Brookline Area Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Brookline Area Recreation Programs, and Saint John Bosco Academy School (formerly Brookline Regional Catholic).

Brookline Breeze Tradition

The Brookline Breeze began in 1982, when three local fitness enthusiasts (Jim Turcol, Mike Radley and Danny O'Brien) had an idea to start a running event encouraging healthy living and promoting the community of Brookline. Over the past three decades, the Brookline Breeze has evolved into one of the signature events on the yearly Pittsburgh Citiparks running calendar.

Dan O'Brien fires the starter's pistol at the inaugural Brookline Breeze on September 3, 1982.

The innaugural Breeze winners were Bruce Kemmerer and Susan Gailey. Six-time winner Barry Harwick set the 5K course record with a time of 14:56 in 1987, a mark that has stood for a quarter century. The women's course record is held by Karen Koehler, who clocked in at 17:26 in 1989. Seven women have repeated as top female runner, with Chris Scarvelis and Ann Mazur topping that list as four-time winners.
